Karl Nova releases “Outside My Bubble – Side B”

This is the B side of the mixtape that Karl Nova put out in December 2011, with 4 more of the tracks I produced. Karl is a big bundle of energy and we ended up recording 7 tracks in 2 sessions. I love my job!

And here is the track that I produced on side A.

Which are your favourite tracks? Don’t forget to comment and share too 🙂

Lisa Mayers now on iTunes

2006 Saw the release of my wife’s 1st EP!
2012 It’s finally on iTunes 🙂

The music industry and social networking have changed  so much in the past few years, and I’ve also made friends and contacts with many, many more people since then. So this is mostly for those who didn’t hear it the 1st time around!

And yes the full album is still on the way. When it’s ready, we’ll let you know too.

So, have a listen, and if you like it…download on iTunes.

Feels So Good / We'll Overcome (Maxi-Single) by Lisa Mayers

#2011highs

I just managed to Tweet a whole blog, so I’ve gathered them together and edited a little so they’re all in one place.

This time last year I said I wanted to meet more people face to face. Well I managed to make it happen and have some great memories too.

#2011highs spending time online and offline with my @The_CPC Cornerstone church family, Twitter family and Facebook family

#2011highs playing guitar at gigs with @Jacy_Mai, @MyM_Music @enquireband (Enquire)and @LisaMayersMusic at Jazz Cafe  (more please!)

#2011highs playing guitar for #InSurgery23 with @TripleOmusic, @F_M_Coeriel, @DrummerboySJ and the rest of the band. What an awesome night

#2011highs sowing, planting and harvesting our own vegetables. Hard work but really, really rewarding

#2011highs upgrading to the @htc Sensation and new iPod Touch (I was quite restrained on gadget purchases this year!)

#2011highs my youngest son’s 1st birthday and my eldest’s 10th! (not forgetting my 3 other children too!)

#2011highs producing tracks for @TripleOmusic, @KarlNova, @officialDBmusic (David B), @MsBlackMonaLisa (Kyra Simone), Niki Carless and more [see Discography]

#2011highs the #ukgospelpodcast series (thanks to @UKGospel and the rest of the team)

#2011highs my daughter’s recovery after severing the tip of her finger in a door hinge (she’s fine now). And my son’s recovery after scratching his cornea in a freak accident with a book!

And this was just a few things that happened in 2011, I wonder what 2012 has in store…

Freedome, by Karl Nova

A friend of mine called Karl Nova heard a few of my beats, liked them, and we ended up recording 7 tracks in a couple of days! The project is called “Outside My Bubble” and it should be out by the end of 2011…

In Karl’s own words

I chose to spell freedom wrongly on purpose because it is a play on words since dome means head. When you find the truth it frees your mind, frees you from the opinions of people, you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free……..

Let me know what you think and check out my Discography for more music

This Video Changed My Life (a little!)

*Vegetarians look away*

Not sure if you know, but in a family of 7, we get through a lot of food. Now that I’ve escaped the rat-race, it’s even more important to make the money I do have stretch further!

The humble chicken. So tasty, so versatile, so cooked a lot! Quite simply, it’s cheaper to buy whole chickens, and cut them into pieces yourself, than buy pre-prepared legs/thighs/wings/breast etc

Now if I’m really smart, I’ll embed a YouTube video

hereotherwise it will just be a link and I’ll embed it later!

I’ve been doing it for a few weeks and it’s been really great. Add this to the veg only dishes we have a few times a week, our food budget is much more manageable 😀

Anyone got any more time or money saving tips for families?

Thanks to Lifehacker for the inspiration!

My Favourite Albums of All Time pt. 3

If this was a tweet I would say

Marvin Sapp – Grace And Mercy #thatisall

This album is amazing! Another gospel classic from 1997, I put this on recently and was singing every riff!

The vocals, the choir, the musicianship, the production, the words…awesome!

Go listen Marvin Sapp – Grace And Mercy

My Favourite Albums of All Time pt. 2

I missed a week! Sorry to keep y’all waiting 🙂

This next one is the series is a gospel classic from 1998 (do they still make classic albums any more?)

Ladies & gentlemen Kim Burrell – Everlasting Life

The first time I heard anything from her was in my car, listening to what was Jazz FM back then, and I heard her sing “Over and Over Again” which blew my mind enough to go home and seek out the album.

To put it simply, her vocal control is incredible, and she uses her voice like an instrument, and constantly changes and improvises melodies.

My words don’t really do just justice…Google some of her live performances to see what I mean, and check out the video below and leave me some comments please 🙂

My Favourite Albums of All Time

I’ve been meaning to blog this for a while, but here are, in no particular order, some of my favourite albums of all time! Every Monday for the next….however long it takes!

You know that feeling when you hear a song and you ask yourself a number of questions at the same time…

“What is that track? Where can I get it? DJ, I hope you back announce this one? Why haven’t I heard this before?”

Well ladies and gents: I present you,  Tommy Sims – Peace And Love

This gem from 2000 ticks so many boxes for me – live instruments, varied styles, strong songwriting, top arrangements and on-point vocals to name a few. You might have heard of Tommy Sims through his work with Israel Houghton, Ce-Ce Winans, Bruce Springsteen, Blackstreet and more.

I like the vibe of a whole album as a project that you can listen to from start to finish and go on a musical journey.

Better that you listen to it for yourself really though! It’s kinda hard to get hold of, but you can listen on in full on Spotify [side note if you don’t use Spotify…why not?]

Look out for another great album next week, and don’t forget to leave comments for me to let me know if I’ve missed the mark, or if you like it.

Big shout to Paul Aaron for introducing me to his work!

2011…a fresh start

I had a massive clear out today. Purge, catharsis, etc. And you know what? It feels great! There’s so much more physical space and I know where everything is.

The next step is to do the same in my ‘digital space’ but that’s another blog!

2010 was varied, 2011 is already looking interesting. My wife and I are planning our homeschooling and events schedule for the year, my eldest will be 10 this year, my youngest will be 1, and there are 5 other birthdays in the house!

There are a number of music releases planned, as well as some new business ideas rattling around in my head… I’m excited!

So until my next post, enjoy a short video quote from Eddie Murphy
